OPENING:

1. EXT: Opening montage

This opening montage will show clips of the two main actors getting up and how this part of their life, like many other aspects of their lives, is so different from each other. The montage does not include any dialogue hence the lack of a script for this part of the film.

The first shot of the montage includes the man waking up early and looking to his bedside table and picking up a picture. He sheds a tear and puts the picture down. The camera then focuses on the picture of his once happy family as he gets up to leave the room.

The second shot of the montage includes the young boy waking up in a dirty room and turns to his bedside table to find a cigarette. He sparks a cigarette and then proceeds to get up.

The 3rd shot of the montage includes the man in a nice bedroom putting on his tie whilst looking in the mirror.

The 4th shot of the montage includes Kieran looking in a dirty mirror putting his hood up.

2. EXT: Graveyard

The old man walks into the cemetery slowly. The old man is dressed in a suit, holding a bouquet of flowers and walking respectively through the cemetery towards a specific tombstone. He looks sad and depressed with his head looking down to the ground.

3. EXT: Tunnel scene

Kieran is loitering around in a tunnel located under a dual carriage way. He is looking suspicious and constantly looking both ways to see if someone is coming. He has one hand in his pocket and he is smoking a cigarette in the other. He is dressed in a full tracksuit and can be stereotypically associated as being a 'chav'.

Kieran looks left as he sees another young male enter the tunnel and walk towards Kieran. Kieran immediately throws his cigarette onto the floor and grabs the male by the neck pushing him up to the wall aggressively.

4. EXT: Graveyard scene

The old man reaches the tombstone in which his wife's name is engraved. The old man takes a deep breathe and kneels down to place the bouquet on to the grave. A tear runs down the face of the old man as he closes his eyes for a moment. He then stands up and walks off with his hands in his pocket.

5. EXT: Drug deal scene

Kieran takes place in a drug deal with another young male. Kieran walks down an alleyway and very smoothly hands over a small bag of drugs whilst the other male hands him a £20 note. The two people then walk opposite ways down the alley. Kieran then emerges into a council estate in which he walks down the street.

5. EXT: Bridge scene

Kieran is walking down a bridge whilst talking on the phone and with a cigarette behind his ear. He walks past the old man who is stood looking out over the river. The boy when past him continues to look back and watch what the old man and what he is doing.

The old man then proceeds to try step up onto the edge of the bridge but fails to lift his leg up completely and stumbles back. The young boy consequently saw this and runs over to stop the man from proceeding with this suicidal intention.

Mock Practice (White Chappel 2009)

Discuss the ways in which the extract constructs the representation of class and status in White Chapel

In the Mise-En-Scene props and costume were used to help identify the difference in status and class. In the opening we can already see a difference in class with two sets of people. In the first scene it shows a higher class. The chief police officer scene was set in a lounge where they were wearing suits, had comb overs, drinking whiskey and smoking cigars. This simply said 'upper class'. The language was also very formal which is another signifier of higher class. The other scene showed the standard police officers fending off youths who were throwing glass bottles at them. This scene was set on a street of council houses and showed general grime. The costumes of the youths were mainly hoodies. This was done, as hoodies can be a stereotype of youth and working class. 

In terms of camera angles and different shot types a tracking shot was used to film the chief police officers sat in the lounge, this choice of shot was used as it is a calm shot which can denote class and sophistication. To show the murderer a Dutch angle was used, this was done to create narrative enigma and suspense, in this shot it shows him stood in the green lit, industrial street. During the riots a lot of hand held shots were taken to make the audience feel more involved and get a better sense of the working class people.

The sound in the opening consists off violins varying the tempo to change the amount of tension as it switches from the different scenes; the reason violins have been used is because the violins could be a symbol of class. 

Film Opening - Abridged

We decided to call the film "Abridged". This was because the important location in our opening is on a bridgea and also the word abridged means to shorten so this could have connotations with the shortening of a life.

The production company is Wong Productions in association with JR Productions and the distribution company is Atko Studios.

We have 2 main characters:

Pitch

My initial idea is to a create a social realist film about a man revisiting the estate he used to live on. As he is making his way down the road he will be having flashbacks of his past as a teenager. He will be able to see himself with a girl he was in love with but got all fell to pieces when he got involved in gang violence and drugs etc.

Genre: The genre of the film will be a hybrid genre of social realism and romance, this way it also appeals to the female audience.

Locations: I have looked into a few possible locations in Burley in Wharfdale and Ben Rhydding locations I have and i narrowed it down to two ex councils estates at the bottom of Ben Rhydding.

Cast: As the film is looking back on his past as a in his younger years the general cast will be all teenagers in groups creating gangs. As I am around this age range i know a lot of people that will be able to fit the roles of these characters.

Costume: For the costumes of the characters the protoganist walking down the road dressed smartly in something like a suit, this will help let the audience know that he has turned his life around and is doing well. For the characters in the flashbacks costume and hair will be need to be clothes that fit a stereotypical "chav" about 10 years ago

I have looked into the BBFC rating guide and I have decided rate my film a 15. My opening may contain strong language and drug taking. I will be able to show the drug taking as a whole but won't promote or encourage dug misuse. I am able to show strong violence but it won't dwell on the infliction of pain and injury.

Music: I aim to ask friend who has is currently studying sound production at university to create some music that will suit the genre of the film.

Feedback- In terms of feedback I was asked how I'm going to show the person in the flashback and whether I was going to use the same actor for the past and the present. After seeing my answer to this question and listening to Mr Burrowes feedback it made me realise that that it could potentially be quite challenging to to use the same use the same actor. By using an older person and shaving off his beard to make him look younger this could cause some problems if an re shoots are needed to take place as it takes time for the actor to grow back facial hair.Mr Burrowes suggested using a long wig with a baseball cap to show that the protagonist is younger. I also got told that i needed to think in more depth about props. Props are a key thing in this film idea as I need to show that there is an obvious time difference in which each scene is set. I received this advice and make actions accordingly by including more props into the scenes like mobile phones, bikes, cars.
